Plexr/Plexr Plus

Plexr generates a 4th state of matter called plasma (not the plasma in blood), using the air molecules in the tiny space between the device and the target skin. This plasma has a unique ability to gently sublimate (evaporate) the target skin. Aside from mole removal, all skin tightening procedures are not removing all the skin but just the very surface, leaving the underlying dermis intact. This is also typically done in a dot-like (fractional) pattern to avoid significant downtime. This process leaves carbon crusts which fall off in the coming days after treatment. Eventually the skin regenerates and it is this NEW skin which is the key. Plasma seems to trigger a powerful cascade of bioremodelling with new collagen and elastin being made. The skin thus becomes architecturally younger and therefore tighter. Plexr is the most powerful non-surgical skin tightening device that currently exists.

Plexr was the original device and Plexr PLUS was a 2nd generation model that came out in 2017. The terms are used synonymously. We use Plexr PLUS for our treatments.

In a word, YES. Due to the revolutionary way in which PLEXR works, it is an extremely safe device in the hands of a trained doctor. There are important aspects of recovery you will be informed about as well as any longer-term potential complications. Although those of darker skin carry a high risk of developing reactive pigmentation, Dr Patel has treated numerous patients with this skin type, with no long-term complications seen. However, if you have olive or darker skin, you will be prescribed a skin preparatory regime for 2-4 weeks use prior to treatment, to minimise the risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. Dr Patel will discuss potential side effects with you during the consultation and you will be given plenty of time to pose any questions you may have.

Plexr is a safe treatment. However, there are some expected side effects which will last for approximately 5-7 days in most patients. These are a brown carbon crust which is like superficial dots on the skin. These are covered well with the camouflage required after treatment. The other effect is swelling which is most remarkable 1-3 days after treatment. By day 5, most people have no or very little swelling remaining, although rarely this can go on for longer. After the crusts fall off- usually around 5-7 days, pink fresh skin will be revealed. A bit like when a scab falls off a wound, you will notice shallow pits in the skin where the crusts were. These pits will gradually fill up with newly generated skin rich with dense collagen and elastin. Pink areas may develop pigmentation which is expected to resolve in due course. This is perfectly covered with the camouflage, so cosmetically, most people are “party fit” a week after treatment. The risk of post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation is low as long as you follow the prescribed aftercare advice.

There is some discomfort reported but almost all patients are able to sit and chat away during treatment. You are numbed prior to Plexr and aftercare in our clinic involves cooling as well as a soothing gel being applied. No one has yet cancelled their intention of having a 2nd treatment where needed, due to discomfort at their first visit.

This should be years, not months. No treatment gives permanent results, not even surgery. Ageing is a dynamic process and your Plexr treatment will not stunt further ageing. Many factors will influence the rate of ageing and therefore the duration of perceived results, such as lifestyle (smoking, alcohol etc), sun exposure, racial origin, genetics etc. Some people do suffer from accelerated ageing and we have encountered surgical patients coming to us for Plexr within a year or two of having had surgery.
